While I was growing up in the state of California, my father was a local church leader. One of the callings my father had was being the leader over the missionaries in our area. Since our missionaries were over so often, my brothers and I had a chance to grow very close to them. The cause was that my father was over our missionaries. Since my father was over them we got to know them very well which was the immediate effect. The remote effect was that my brothers wanted to become missionaries just like them someday. Another remote effect was that because of their example I eventually served a mission.

My Purpose
As a child we all have hopes and dreams of what we will become some day, whether it's becoming a fireman, policeman or even Superman. We all like the idea of being a hero of some kind, and as a child we have no doubt that's what we'll become. In a way we were right, we can become a hero just in our own way.
Although it would be nice to make such a difference in the world that I'm noticed as some type of icon, my goal is to become the father who could raise such a person. This is my purpose. Some dedicate themselves to saving lives, I would like to dedicate mine to raising them.

An Event That Defines Me
There are several moments my life that have defined me as a person. These events have changed my actions and way thinking. We don't really know when these type of events will occur, we just know that they will. These life defining moments bring us out of our comfort zone, this is how they have such an impacting affect on us. when we look back on these experiences sometimes we don't remember all the bad, but the good that came from it.
At the age of sixteen my parents had announced our upcoming move. They stated moving from California to Utah was the best thing for our family. At the time i was finishing my freshman year in high school, had allot of cool friends and a girl i thought i was in love with. I remember the feeling of betrayal that come over me when my parents told me the good of family is more important than what i thought was best for me.
All the goodbyes were difficult, seeing the house for the last time was very difficult. I remember the drive away from home calling all my friends and talking to them about my parents, and how they were the worst. Then reality hit that i was gone and a new life (weather i liked it or not) was waiting for me in Layton Utah. I remember thinking "what will it be like? after all, this is my first time moving." then a feeling that life wouldn't be that bad, started creep into my head, I didn't let that feeling become visible to my parents, but it was there.
I started to make new friends at our new home, and my parents and i eventually had a functional relationship. I'm now grateful that we moved, and would have it no other way. This experience defines me, so why would I want that erased from my life? These events define us, and let us know how far we can be stretched.
